||
Moving thirty-metre pipe sections, structural profiles or wind tower segments on a standard flat cart invites the load to walk, sag or tip, because the cart is short and the material is long. This extra wide deck rail transfer cart takes the opposite approach. A 12 m long, 3.2 m wide platform carries three rows of adjustable V cradles, and the pipe or profile overhangs at both ends in a controlled way while the cradle spacing keeps the section from rolling. Rated at 25 tons, the cart handles the long material directly and removes the crane booking that a short cart would otherwise force at every move.
The chassis is a welded box beam structure in Q345 steel, stiffened across the full deck width so that a load concentrated on one edge does not twist the frame on uneven rail. Each axle runs on double row tapered roller bearings sized for 25 tons, and the drive is applied through two independent geared motors that share the load through a torque splitting controller. Where a 12 m cart cannot turn inside the building, a tandem arrangement of two synchronised carts is available so the pipe is carried at both ends and steered along a curve.

Long loads need predictable stopping. The drive uses regenerative braking with a mechanical fail-safe brake on each axle, and the controller ramps deceleration so a 30 m pipe does not slide forward when the cart stops. Optional equipment includes a laser anti-collision scanner at both deck ends, a load presence sensor on each cradle, an audible travel alarm, radio remote control with a 100 m range for outdoor yards, and a tandem synchronisation kit that keeps two carts within 20 mm of each other when a pipe is carried at both ends. Rail cleaning brushes and a rail end stop with buffer are commonly added for outdoor installations.
This cart is used wherever material length rather than weight sets the handling problem. Typical sites include pipe mills and coating plants moving finished spools of line pipe, structural steel fabricators shifting beams and columns between saw, drill and blast stations, wind energy works handling tower sections and blade root inserts, shipyards moving stiffened panels between prefabrication and assembly, and storage yards where galvanised or coated profiles must be moved without crane contact damage. Precast concrete plants and rail maintenance depots also use wide deck carts for long sleepers and switch components.
Because the deck exceeds standard container length, the cart is manufactured in two bolted modules with a machined and dowelled joint that is assembled and aligned at the factory before shipment. The complete unit is load tested at 125 percent of the rated capacity while deck deflection and rail contact are measured, then the modules are separated, painted, protected with rust preventive coating and packed in plywood cases for a 40 foot open top or flat rack container. Shipping includes the joint bolt set, alignment shims, electrical schematics, the tandem wiring diagram where applicable, and an installation and commissioning manual in English.
